Gordon Belt replied to Jim Havron's discussion 'How comfortable are we with this technology? Other emerging technologies?'
I think part of the resistance you're seeing might be that there is so much out there: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc., etc., etc.,. It can be a bit overwhelming. Having this Ning forum is a great idea for the uninitiated as well as the…

Jim Havron replied to Jim Havron's discussion 'How comfortable are we with this technology? Other emerging technologies?'
I'll start. I am increasingly comfortable with this technology because I am finding it helps me keep involved with people who I would otherwise not be able to communicate with. I also see it as a media platform that is among those preferred by…

Who are we as archivists?

This is a perpetual question that comes up in discussions I participate in with other professionals (and semi-professional/volunteers/members of allied professions/users) enough that I think it should be an ongoing discussion. It influences how we present and discuss all aspects of our profession. I mean if your base assumption is that an archivist's primary duty is to preserve records and you are discussing topics with someone who believes that an archivist's primary purpose is to make sure…See More

RSS Feed

This site can feed into an RSS feed reader. I am using Bloglines, but there are others. It gives me one place to go and check to see if there has been any activity on any of the blogs I subscribe to (or write) as well as the social networks. Keeps things manageable. I generally keep it open on my laptop and check it when I have a break. If you are unfamiliar with this technology, you can contact me through my personal page and I will try to…

STA Group?

We have the ability to set up sub-groups on this site. There is one set up for STA members only. I do not know if we need that group, though if our site membership grows large enough we may need it to keep from cluttering the sight with STA business when we may have non-STA members aboard. I would also note that we may wish to start standing discussion groups for people interested in specific topics such as religious archives, preservation, or a group for folk just getting their feet wet.…

My Web 2.0 post

This has been posted elsehwere in one form or another. I think it worth re-posting as the STA workshop this fall will be on Web 2.0. (The Conference theme is Archives 2.0...) It was pointed out to me that there is something in SAA'a newest Archival Outlook that says that they are beginning to think about Web 2.0. (I know I have the issue at home so I must see what all it says.) Our theme was selected about 2 years ago.

This is actually part of an essay that was taken from a… Continue
